If you are refused to be boarded or your flight is delayed, or cancelled, you will be entitled to compensation in most cases while you arrive at your final destination with at least 3-hour delay.
Same rules apply if you travel to and from Turkey with the European airline companies (for example Jettime, SAS or Norwegian). These rules are conducted by EU and they apply to flights within EU and to travellers of European airline companies.
As mentioned, the 3-hour rule also applies to flights from Turkey as long as you travel with a European airline company. If, on the other hand, you travel from Turkey with a Turkish airline company, Turkish legislation is applied, that is why the matter gets a bit more complicated.
When you travel with a Turkish airline company departing from Turkey, you will be entitled to compensation only if you arrive to your final destination with a 7.5-hour delay.
If the flight is cancelled from Turkey, you are entitled to compensation already after 2-hour delay (50% compensation and full compensation at 4-hour delay).
While traveling with a transfer, you may sometimes miss your connecting flight to the final destination, typically because the first flight is delayed. In such cases, it is the airline company's responsibility to reroute you.
If you miss your connecting flight and arrive at your final destination with a minimum of 2-4-hour delay, you may be entitled to compensation. The amount that can be received as compensation is the same regardless of whether you use Turkish or EU legislation:
Also, please remember that if the delay is more than 2 hours, you can claim food and drink from the airline company. Please remember to save your receipts if you pay for extra costs.
Compensation can be received if the airline company caused a reason for the flight delay. Please keep in mind that you can claim for compensation for flight delay, cancellation and rebooking that is up to 3 years old.
